hen you came to the Upper Gate, this is the view you will see. This picture was taken during one of the off-season times. But, during the high-season (from April to November), this place is packed. At the end of these shops in the picture is the entry to the site. In case you came here from a long distance from Selçuk such as Bodrum (186 Kms. / 115 Miles), Marmaris (225 Kms. / 140 Miles) or even from Kuşadası (19 Kms. / 12 Miles), you may use bathrooms which are at the end of the shops across from these shops on this picture. It costs about US$0.50. During the summer time, especially during the months of July and August, make sure you acquire water and hat with you to be used in the site. There are not many places with shadow as the site is completely an open area. Across from these shops, there are couple of cafeterias in case you would like to have some snacks.

At the entry way, there are couple of booths on the left-hand side. You can buy plan and books of Ephesus from the first one and admission ticket from the second one. Admission Fee is US$ 6 or 7 (Subject to change every year as of 1^st of April). After buying your admission ticket, you have to go through electronic gates by inserting your ticket into the slit on the machines. So, now you are at the site of Ephesus. Before going further on, I have to inform you that during last year (2003), another booth was built there just after the entry gates to sell audio guides to the visitors which is very reasonable (about US$5.50) but you will not understand too much of a thing what the machine tells you.
As you enter the site, these are the scenes you will be seeing. The picture on the left shows the area on the left of the area and the picture on the right whows the area you will be seeing the uppermost level of the site with remains which are in a short distance.

Actually, the point where I stood-up to take the picture on the right is the place where you will see some guides, who speak different languages, are located.
