SELÇUK
After arriving in İzmir, you need to find your way to Selçuk which can be done various ways. Depending on how you came to İzmir:
1) If you landed at İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport, you can hire a taxi to Selçuk which could be costly;
2) From the airport, you can get on the shuttle bus which take you to İzmir and from İzmir airport terminal you can go to the main bus terminal by either a taxi or by shared minibusses called Dolmuş. Distances and fares are short and reasonable;
3) From the bus terminal there are dolmuşes and busses every 10-20 minutes to Selçuk.
4) There is a small air field (Selçuk-Efes Airfield) which has a runway of 3 kms/1.85 miles in length which is enough for small size jet planes.
5) The town is linked to İzmir and Aydın by a railway which was built in 1860, as well. By means of this line, the town is also linked to the Eastern part of Turkey like Denizli (Pamukkale), Afyon and the rest.

Selçuk is on İzmir-Aydın State road and 75 kms/47 miles from the center of İzmir, 60 kms/37 miles from the Adnan Menderes Airport, 19 kms/11.8 miles from Kuşadası, roughly 60 kms/37 miles from the ancient sites of Didyma, Miletus and Priene; 190 kms/118 miles from a touristic resort of Çeşme ad 55 kms/34 miles from Aydın.

The town has a marvellous beach of 12 kms/7.5 miles in length with modern accommodations and resorts. The altitude of the town is 19 meters/62 feet above sea level. The town covers an area of 2,900 hectares/7,166 acres. It is urrounded by Torbalı in the North, Tire in the East, Kuşadası in the West and Germencik and Söke in the South. These are typical Turkish towns worthed to visit for their local handcrafts.

Geology: River Küçük Menderes (Small Meander - ancient River Caystros), after irrigating the valley of the same name, flows into the Aegean Sea from 3 kms/1.85 miles north of the town. Maden, Kayser and Sarıkaya hills of Kartal Chains in the East whoose altitudes are not too high and Bülbül (Nightingale) Hill are located in the South of the town. At the skirts of this hill, great civilizations were founded and survived for about 2,400 years.

Selçuk has a typical Mediterranean Climate whic is mild and sunny for about 300 days of the year. Agricultural products like cotton, olive, melon (sweet), water-melon, figs, grapes, peaches, mandarin (tangerine) and tourism are the main income of the town.

Çöp Şiş (a different type of Shish Kebap), Ayran, wine of Şirince, Olive Oil, needle-crafts and outfits made out of a special hand-made fabrics are famous subjects.

This place is one of the migration places of storks, which almost became the symbol of Selçuk.
