159 members of parliament with different headgears at the Parliament Building, which is a museum in Ankara at the moment, came into a decision unanomously on the 23rd of October 1923: "State of Turkey is a Republic". During the same session, Mustafa Kemal ATATÜRK was chosen as the first president of The Republic of Turkey, again unanomously, and this important occasion was celebrated after mid-night by 101 canon salutation shots.
