The city and the province of VAN occupy important geographical positions and for this reason the region became an inhabitant place for long historical eras and contain the traces of many civilizations. It was the capital city for the Urartians and has been a thoroughfare place for the Hurrites, Hittites, Persians, Medians, Seljukians and Ottomans.
Van, with its lake, cat and castles, is one of the important tourism centers of the Eastern Anatolian Region of Turkey.
